Adaptive Signaling Project (PennDOT)

The Borough of Castle Shannon is cooperating with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for an adaptive system of traffic control signals along the Route 88/Library Road corridor.

Traffic Signals at Rockwood Ave, Castle Shannon Blvd, Grove Road and Killarney Drive have been modified to improve traffic flow.

Motorists will likely see adjustments to traffic flow patterns which are different from normal light sequencing. Motorists who used to be able to anticipate signal changes based on predictable patterns will no longer be able to do so. Instead, signal patterns will adjust themselves based on traffic flow, giving rise to a better flow of traffic.

PennDOT will be monitoring and adjusting traffic signal timing throughout the 30 day testing period effective May 28, 2020.
