Pennsylvania Parking Regulations

Castle Shannon Borough is taking on the daunting task of updating our parking permit program.

With the issuance of new parking permits comes the opportunity to remind residents, business owners and visitors to the Borough of the Statewide regulation requiring all vehicle to park with the flow of traffic. The verbiage follows:

ยง 3354.  Additional parking regulations.

(a)  Two-way highways.--Except as otherwise provided in this section, every vehicle standing or parked upon a two-way highway shall be positioned parallel to and with the right-hand wheels within 12 inches of the right-hand curb or, in the absence of a curb, as close as practicable to the right edge of the right-hand shoulder.

(b)  One-way highways.--Except as otherwise provided in this section, every vehicle standing or parked upon a one-way highway shall be positioned parallel to the curb or edge of the highway in the direction of authorized traffic movement with its right-hand wheels within 12 inches of the right-hand curb or, in the absence of a curb, as close as practicable to the right edge of the right-hand shoulder, or with its left-hand wheels within 12 inches of the left-hand curb or, in the absence of a curb, as close as practicable to the left edge of the left-hand shoulder.

There are several reasons to adhere to these regulations:

  1. Parking with the flow of traffic negates the need to drive into the oncoming traffic lane to get to a parking space.
  2. The rear lenses of vehicle are made of red reflective material and thus easier to see at night.
  3. Enforcement Officers checking for permits will be able to readily see offenders while noting  license plate registrations.

Castle Shannon Police will begin to issue warnings for violators on or before January 1, 2017. Enforcement of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code will begin on February 1, 2017.

Park with the flow of traffic. Your safety is our first priority and your cooperation is appreciated.
