Good afternoon everyone:
We are happy to report that our officers as well as officers from Baldwin Borough, Whitehall Borough, and Jefferson Hills received the Amen Corner "To Protect & Serve" Award at the 20th annual Amen Corner Awards ceremony. The courageous officers were nominated and selected for this prestigious award following their heroic acts at the 2020 Easter Sunday Fire. We again want to thank them for the hard work they did that day which saved many lives.
Below is the previously published social media release from 4.12.20:
Today at approximately 9:30am our department was dispatched to 3310 Brownsville Road for an apartment fire. Upon arrival, this fire and smoke had spread through the building which houses approximately 60 people. We received reports that multiple people were trapped inside their apartments. These tenants were of various ages however there were multiple young children inside including an infant. Approximately 8 people including 3 firemen were transported to various hospitals. At this time there were no fatalities.
We would like to thank all of the police, fire, and EMS units who responded and provided assistance. Their professionalism and team work without question saved lives today.
We also want to specifically recognize the following officers for evacuating many of the people before the fire department arrived:
Brentwood Police: Sgt. John Skrip and Officer Christian Heynes
Baldwin Borough Police: Sgt. Michael Falcione, Officer Matthew Collier, and Officer Luke Sedar
Whitehall Police: Officer James Lostetter
Jefferson Hills: Officer Austin Albright
Lastly, we also want to recognize the Mt. Oliver VFD and its members for rescuing multiple people who were trapped on the top floor of the building.
Thank you.
