September is AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Month

We often associate September with the start of school, football season and Fall, however, it is also Responsible Pet Ownership Month. So while you're busy making plans for seasonal fun, consider ways to celebrate your dog and practice responsible dog ownership.

- Like people, dogs require exercise. While some dogs like a traditional walk around town, others prefer a vigorous run, swim or just a good old game of tug of war. Once you figure out what Fido likes best, commit to their happiness on a daily basis.

- Set up an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam as well as needed vaccinations.

- Positive exposure to various situations as well as other dogs / animals, will help with basic socialization - these can include visits to the dog park, meet and greets or even eating outside at a restaurant that allows dogs.

- Last but not lease be sure to license your dog; it is a requirement in Allegheny County. Here is a link in case you're unsure where to go https://www.alleghenycounty.us/treasurer/delete/dog-license.aspx
