Dear Residents and Visitors to the Castle Shannon Police website,
Good morning.
On this Sunday morning, we offer a week in review of Borough activities in response to COVID-19:
On Monday March 23-Mayor Baumgarten joined 41 other communities at that time in Declaring a Health Emergency in the Borough of Castle Shannon.
Thursday March 26- Borough Council launched a yard sign campaign to drive home the message. STAY HOME. SAVE LIVES. CASTLE SHANNON CARES. 100 yard signs were distributed over two days.
Castle Shannon Borough closed all Borough Parks effective immediately except for walking trails to deter residents from gathering at sports fields, courts and playgrounds.
(Keystone Oaks School District has already closed all playgrounds, courts and fields at school facilities for safety reasons.)
This action came amidst reports that the COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County more than doubled to 133, including cases in Baldwin Borough, Mt Lebanon, Scott Twp and 1 in Castle Shannon.
Saturday March 28- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports a new surge in cases in Allegheny County. 61 new cases bring the County total positive cases to 219. 31 patients are hospitalized and there have been 2 deaths. 46% of the cases involve patients in the 25-46 age group.
Social distancing measures remain our most effective tool to combat this health threat !
Governor Wolf’s stay at home orders and business closures are designed to mitigate the potential of overwhelming our health system.
Pennsylvania’s message is Stay Home. Stay Calm and Stay Safe.
Castle Shannon Borough Officials continue to monitor the situation and are working under guidance from the Allegheny County Emergency Management Agency and the Allegheny County Health Department.
It is difficult and stressful to stay home, but if you will continue to have patience and follow instruction from local, County, State and the Federal Government, we will all get through this together.
Social Distancing does not mean social isolation. Get fresh air. Exercise responsibly. Visit with friends and family by phone or virtually through social media. Shop for groceries and/or prescription medication. Go to the doctor if you have to.
