COVID Cases – 1,235 (+11)
This number includes 1,193 confirmed cases and 42 probable cases. A case is probable when the person displays symptoms of COVID-19 and has had close contact with a confirmed positive case but has not had a positive test themselves. We are including probable cases to better assess the level of community spread.
The ages, as well as the percentage of cases represented, of those in the county with COVID-19 are listed below.
00-04 – 4 (less than 1%)
05-12 – 4 (less than 1%)
13-18 – 10 (1%)
19-24 – 82 (7%)
25-49 – 423 (34%)
50-64 – 353 (29%)
65 + -- 359 (29%)
The gender of those with COVID-19 are listed below:
Female – 664 (54%)
Male – 571 (46%)
Additionally, there are 222 past or present hospitalizations (+9).
To date, there have also been 87 deaths (+8). Of reported deaths, 78 are confirmed (had positive test) and 9 probable. A probable death is one where COVID-19 is listed on the deceased’s death certificate, but the person never had a positive test for the virus. All deaths are of individuals ranging in age from 42-103, with 84 being the median age of those who have died.
The Allegheny County Health Department is deeply saddened by the toll COVID-19 is having on long-term care facilities in the county. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, 257 residents and 84 staff members at 31 long-term care facilities in Allegheny County have tested positive for COVID-19. There have been 58 deaths at those facilities.
