Contagious COVID Delta Variant substantial in Allegheny County

The Post Gazette reports that "The rising number of COVID-19 cases in Allegheny and five of the surrounding counties in the Pittsburgh metro area has triggered a federal government recommendation that everyone wear face masks again to tamp down the spread of the disease."

In Castle Shannon, masks will be mandated for all visitors to all municipal facilities (to include the Community Library and the Municipal Center) effective Wednesday August 4, 2021.

Unfortunately, it is time to get your masks out of storage and put them to good use again. It is also time to return to vigilance with hand washing, staying home when sick and social distancing.

The PG story goes on to report that -Allegheny County Health Department Director Debra Bogen said vaccination against the disease was the most effective way to stop the infections. A total of 54.2% of those eligible in the county or 659,029 people, had gotten the shots, according to the CDC.

“Vaccination continues to be the most important public health action that we can take to end the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said in a statement Tuesday. “Our goal is to prevent it from spreading further in an effort to keep our community safe.”
