PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK PROGRAM REACHES A MILESTONE!

AG Shapiro Announces Drug Takeback Milestone 200 Tons of Drugs Destroyed - Castle Shannon PD

PA ATTORNEY GENERAL JOSH SHAPIRO WAS IN THE SOUTH HILLS ON 8/12 TO ANNOUNCE THAT PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL AGENCIES, SUCH AS THOSE WITH CASTLE SHANNON POLICE, HAVE RESULTED IN THE SAFE DESTRUCTION OF 200 TONS OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS SINCE 2017 (INCLUDING 10 TONS FROM ALLEGHENY COUNTY ALONE).

THE CASTLE SHANNON POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS AN EARLY ADOPTER OF THE PROGRAM AND HAVE BEEN ACCEPTING UNWANTED MEDICATIONS SINCE 2016 AT A COLLECTION BOX AT THE BOROUGH OFFICES.

IN 2019, WE PARTNERED WITH ASTI’S PHARMACY AT 250 MT LEBANON BLVD TO EXPAND THE PROGRAM AND OFFER THE COMMUNITY A SECOND COLLECTION POINT.

THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO REMIND THE COMMUNITY OF THIS IMPORTANT PROGRAM THAT IS VITAL TO OUR EFFORTS TO COMBAT THE OPIOID CRISIS. YOUR EFFORTS RESULT IN NOT ONLY THE PREVENTION OF ABUSE BUT ALSO DOES SO IN AN ENVORONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE MANNER. CSPD PARTNERS WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA NATIONAL GUARD TO RESPONSIBLY DISPOSE OF THE ITEMS SO THAT THEY DON’T MAKE THEIR WAY INTO THE WATER SUPPLY OR ENVIRONMENT.

CITIZENS CAN ANONYMOUSLY DROP OFF THEIR UNWANTED MEDICATIONS AT THE CASTLE SHANNON POLICE DEPARTMENT OR ASTI’S SOUTH HILLS PHARMACY YEAR ROUND.
